Now you can reach this goal with less time and money. The University of La Verne has partnered with Bakersfield College to create a pathway to a degree in Child Development while being dual enrolled in both schools. This reduces costs and time to degree completion.
The LaFetra College of Education Child Development Program prepares students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to work effectively with young children through age 8, and families during the most critical developmental time in a child’s life. The program focuses on how young children develop and learn in relation to their family, culture, and linguistics while incorporating the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards.
Essential elements within the curriculum and program are:
• Caring and responsive relationships are the foundation of healthy human development
• Understanding developmentally, linguistically, and culturally-appropriate pedagogy
• Applying reflective practice as a tool for life long learning
• Culturally responsive interactions enrich and strengthen individuals, families, communities, and society
• Summarizing, examining, and applying research and theory to practice
Students will complete the CORE courses in the major, with the opportunity to transfer in units! Selected courses for transfer align with the California Curriculum Alignment Project. Students must complete 44 units of residency from the University of La Verne.
